A Liam from Liège? A North American Noel? Exploring the growing popularity of Oasis tribute bands.

In August, around 14 million people sought tickets for Oasis’ first concert in 15 years, available in a mere 1.4 million slots. Even as Ticketmaster hiked some ticket prices from £150 to £350, the entire batch vanished in mere minutes. Those fortunate enough to snag passes are eagerly counting down to the show in July. Meanwhile, the tribute band scene for Oasis has exploded. Why head to Wembley when you can enjoy an Oasis tribute gig at your nearby pub, possibly even close to “Liam” or “Noel”?

There’s certainly no shortage of tribute bands around. According to rough estimates, there are at least 40 Oasis cover bands in the UK alone, and this trend extends to Europe, the US, Canada, and Japan, where the original band has long had a supportive fan base.

With that in mind, we looked into some of the best international acts, finding “Liams,” “Noels,” and even an eccentric “Tony McCarroll,” all sharing tales about feuds, wild hairstyles, and the universal connection music creates, regardless of language.

Main Road – Matteo “Liam” Terji, 39

This band formed in 2018, named after Oasis’ notable 1996 concert in Manchester. By day, I work in a chocolate factory. Channeling Liam comes naturally for me. When I’m not performing, I just stand still and absorb the crowd’s energy. I find that even if some locals speak French or Flemish, singing in English transcends language barriers—it’s really about the feelings we convey through the music.

Oasis Scottish Leith – Annabelle “Liam/Noel” Cooper, 42

We formed in 2018, branding ourselves as a cute Oasis cabaret act. Sometimes, the things Liam and Noel say are pretty out there, which can be a bit much for some folks.

Biff: Liam/Noel Nicholson, 36

We perform Oasis songs, albeit not perfectly. I always dreamed of playing in a band when I was a kid, and now I’m making that dream come true, even without instruments.

Osiris – Alex “Liam” Lancerrell, 37, France

Our band started in 2020, featuring a former soccer player as our bassist. I don’t really think my voice is a perfect match for Liam’s, but every day at work helps me with English, which is vital for our performances.

Chris “Noel” Sesari, 41: Noel has always been my idol, but capturing his high notes is no walk in the park. Britpop in France hasn’t enjoyed the same resurgence since the band’s reunion.

Fake Assis – Phil “Liam” Hanson, 41, United Arab Emirates

Formed in 2017, my band aims to bring the Britpop vibe to a largely expatriate crowd in Dubai. We want to recreate that nostalgic feel for those in their 20s to 40s who’re out for a good time.

Adam “Noel” O’Neill, 31: Our first gig attracted 20 people, but after a year, we headlined a big event with 50,000 attendees. While I don’t sound exactly like Noel, I play his guitar.

Oass – Seth “Liam” Romano, 42, USA

We came together in 2021; it’s interesting how most Americans only recognize three Oasis songs. When we perform, dedicated fans come out and sing along, and I strive to embody Liam’s demeanor.

Oeisis – Martin “Noel” Pacheco, 34, Argentina

Oasis has a huge following in Argentina. I enjoy taking on their persona on stage, and many fans agree we resemble them from afar.

Magic Pe – Gamal “Noel” Nasser, 42, Indonesia

We rebranded to Mejikpei due to pronunciation issues. Despite being millennials, it’s exciting to see younger fans getting into Oasis’s music.

Oasis Rael – Michael “Liam” Libman, 39, Israel

Our first gig in 2018 drew interest as people thought we were performing original material. The secret to portraying Liam? It’s all about capturing that swagger.

O+Asis – Crocodile “Liam” Shinohara, 26, Japan

We formed in 2019 and the name translates to “Otosis.” I’ve learned to mimic Liam by studying his movements, as many in the audience may not speak English.

Noasis – Darren “Liam” Spybee, 55, Australia

Started back in 1995, our band has a strong family connection. Since relocating to Australia, we’ve built a dedicated fanbase, despite the occasional rivalry with other tribute bands.
