Trump and Melania Visit Flood-Stricken Texas
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited Carville, Texas, where significant flooding has resulted in the tragic loss of more than 120 lives. They met with local officials and first responders who are addressing the aftermath of the disaster that occurred when the Guadalupe River rose dramatically within hours.
“I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s a bad thing,” Trump remarked during a roundtable discussion with those involved in the recovery efforts.
Beyond the confirmed casualties, reports indicate over 160 individuals remain unaccounted for in Kerr County.
Deep Sadness Over Lives Lost
Trump expressed his sorrow over the young lives lost, mentioning that at least 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls, perished in the floods. “They were there because they loved God,” he stated. “As we grieve this inconceivable tragedy, we take comfort in knowing those beautiful girls are now with God.”
Later, he added, “American hearts are shattered. We feel sadness and devastation. It’s a loss of life, and unfortunately, they are still searching.”
Upcoming Plans and Cabinet Meeting
During a cabinet meeting, Trump revealed plans for another visit to the flood-affected areas, scheduled for Friday. “My First Lady and I will be traveling, and we don’t want to interfere with any operations. When the president goes, attention is invariably drawn to him,” he noted.
Reflections on Putin
In a related discussion, Trump shared insights about his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He voiced frustration about Putin’s actions amid escalating tensions related to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. “We’ve received a lot of criticism from Putin. He has historically been kind to us, but that’s not entirely relevant anymore,” Trump remarked.
Meeting with Netanyahu
Additionally, Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently, marking Netanyahu’s third visit to Washington during Trump’s current term. They discussed ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, with Trump expressing optimism about potential progress.
“We say we’re very close to a deal,” he commented, indicating a hopeful tone about future negotiations. “We want to have peace and get hostages back, and I believe we’re moving in that direction.”
