Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews on Wednesday criticized Democrats' “open borders” policies following Vice President Kamala Harris' loss to former President Donald Trump.
Trump won Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania early Wednesday, giving him the necessary 270 electoral votes, according to forecasters. “Immigration policy has been a terrible decision for the Democratic Party. Their decisions have allowed millions of people to cross the border of their own volition, and they have flown through the border and not done anything about it. I don’t know who they thought they were playing with when they didn’t,” Matthews said. “And a lot of people, especially working people, are very angry about this. They feel betrayed, they feel abandoned by their country, and they don't like it.”
“And I don't know who liked it. The Hispanics obviously didn't like it and they want the law enforced. So if they do something sensible here regarding open borders.” “I don't know if they took any precautions, but that's what open borders are,” he continued. “And I think it was a bad decision. I hope they learn from it.”
