Political Comeback of Tiffany Henyard

Tiffany Henyard, who has referred to herself as a “super mayor,” has had a tumultuous history marked by scandals. She recently departed from both the Democratic Party and the state of Illinois following a significant defeat in her re-election campaign in Dalton.

Now, Henyard has made her way to Georgia, where she is seeking to re-establish her political career as a Republican. She has launched what she labels a comeback initiative titled “Project Phoenix.”

In her latest political venture, she secured the Republican nomination for Fulton County Commission District 5 without opposition, garnering 1,136 votes. Interestingly, this number is reportedly more than 2,000 votes short of what candidates received in the Democratic primary.

“Thank you Fulton County! We made it,” she announced on Facebook. “Please support the movement.”

During her tenure in Dalton, her administration led the village into a $3.6 million deficit, ultimately resulting in her ousting from office. An independent investigation conducted by former federal prosecutor Lori Lightfoot highlighted issues like excessive expenditures on Village credit cards, with figures such as $218,000 on Amazon and $170,000 on travel surfacing.

Her time in office was further complicated by an FBI investigation into corruption, a lawsuit related to sexual harassment from a trip to Las Vegas, and accusations that she used her business license to target political rivals. Public meetings were often marred by heated exchanges that interrupted proceedings.

Even after leaving office, she found herself in legal trouble, being held in contempt of court for not submitting required public financial documents, wrapping up what many see as a chaotic chapter in Illinois politics.

Earlier in a turbulent Dalton Village Board meeting, Henyard was met with criticism when she shrugged off the legal challenges against her, declaring, “I’m always being sued.”

Looking ahead, Henyard is poised to move into the general election against either Helen Zenobia Willis or Sojourner Grimmett in Georgia’s predominantly Democratic district.

She named her campaign “Project Phoenix” as a nod to her previous electoral defeat, emphasizing resilience amidst adversity.

“Project Phoenix is about me taking a stand and showing the world what it’s like to move on from controversy,” she stated earlier this year. “You’re showing the world that when they keep trying to tarnish your name, you keep moving forward. Never give up.”
