Planned Parenthood Invests Heavily in Midterm Elections

Planned Parenthood is committing over $47 million to the upcoming midterm elections this November, primarily targeting Republican candidates after they backed cuts to taxpayer funding for abortion services.

This significant funding comes from Planned Parenthood Vote, an independent super PAC linked to the organization, as reported earlier this week. The PAC plans to utilize these funds for advertising and voter outreach efforts aimed at Republicans in ten House races across seven states, including incumbent Senator Susan Collins from Maine and potential Senate candidate Mike Rogers from Michigan.

Key targets specified include Representatives Bill Huizenga, Tom Barrett, Gabe Evans, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Mike Lawler, David Valadao, Brian Fitzpatrick, Ryan McKenzie, and Juan Siscomani.

“We are in the fight for our lives,” said Sara Standiford, the executive director of Planned Parenthood Vote, in comments to Politico, emphasizing the organization’s goal of defeating lawmakers who oppose their agenda.

Last Independence Day, former President Donald Trump enacted the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which had significant repercussions for Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers, restricting them from billing Medicaid for various treatments.

Although Planned Parenthood can now resume billing Medicaid for certain services unrelated to abortion, funding challenges persist. This has forced the organization to reduce its range of services and, in some cases, close facilities. The Kaiser Family Foundation has noted that 57 health centers have been closed or consolidated across 20 states since early 2025.

This marks the group’s second-largest investment in a midterm election, just shy of the $50 million spent in 2022.

In response, pro-life organizations are also ramping up their efforts. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and its affiliated Women Speak Out PAC announced last November that they are investing $80 million to support pro-life candidates, planning to reach over 10.5 million voters in both House and Senate races.

“Republicans cannot win without a pro-life base, especially in midterm elections when overall voter turnout is low,” stated Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America. She further criticized Democrats for their stance on abortion, claiming they’ve shifted drastically away from their traditional views on the issue.

The ongoing funding battles and political investments suggest that the abortion debate will be a prominent issue in the upcoming midterm elections.
