Red Bull’s Breakup with Team Principal Christian Horner

Red Bull has shared more details about the surprising departure of Christian Horner, who has been with the team for two decades.

After two decades, during which he led the team to eight driver championships and six constructor titles, Horner was dismissed on Tuesday, with the announcement made public on Wednesday. In a farewell address at the team’s Milton Keynes factory, Horner expressed his shock at the decision.

“Yesterday, Red Bull informed me that I would be stepping back from any operational role moving forward after this rally,” he stated.

“I am still technically part of the company, but the operational baton has been passed. While it caught me off guard, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone I’ve worked with over the last 20 years.”

Reflecting on his journey, Horner recalled arriving with few gray hairs and uncertain expectations. He was quickly embraced and began transforming two struggling buildings into a powerhouse in Formula 1.

He remarked, “A new CEO will be appointed soon, and I fully support him. I’m instructing him to take care of you all.”

“I fought hard for this team, did my utmost, and put in significant effort, but that chapter is coming to a close.”

During his emotional speech, he reportedly broke down in tears and received a standing ovation from former colleagues.

Looking ahead for Red Bull, Laurent Mekies has been named the new CEO and team principal.

As for Horner, it seems he still has connections with Red Bull; there may be a gardening leave under his contract. This implies he might still be around for the remainder of the season.

However, there are other potential opportunities for Horner. He has been linked to Ferrari ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, with teams like Alpine and Cadillac also being considered viable options for his next move.
