The Los Angeles Rams are currently unsure when Aaron Donald will decide to un-retire. Interestingly, the team hasn’t set a deadline for him to make that call.
Ian Rapoport, an NFL insider, mentioned on Saturday’s NFL Game Day Kickoff that the Rams have not imposed a timeline on Donald because, well, there’s really no urgency to make a decision. He added that the team isn’t going to wait around if he chooses to return; their defensive line seems plenty strong as it stands.
Rapoport pointed out, “They’re confident in their current lineup, featuring talents like Myles Garrett and others. If Donald decides to come back, that would certainly be an added benefit.” He also noted that the Rams are flexible regarding timing, whether that means weeks before the season starts or later. They want him back, but there’s really no pressure.
The thought of Donald potentially rejoining the team as just a bonus should raise some concerns for other teams, particularly the 31 other starting quarterbacks out there.
The Rams boast a solid defensive lineup, including players like Coby Turner, Poona Ford, and Braden Fisk. There’s also Myles Garrett, who will mainly be focused on getting to the quarterback.
Interestingly, there’s been a lot of talk about Donald’s possible return ever since the Browns traded Garrett to the Rams. This speculation has stretched over the past couple of months, and it might continue for a while. Donald seems to be actively assessing his condition and even took part in some official Rams workouts this summer.
As Rapoport pointed out, while the Rams have a strong team, bringing Donald back would certainly enhance their chances. After all, he has played under coach Sean McVay for seven seasons before announcing his retirement following the 2023 season.
In short, while the Rams aren’t desperate for Donald’s return, having him back could give them a more solid shot at the Super Bowl.
