Aaron Glenn silent on Arian Smith's unexpected absence in victory

Jets’ Arian Smith Inactive Against Falcons

Rookie wide receiver Arian Smith found himself on the inactive list during the Jets’ recent victory over the Falcons.

Smith, selected in the fourth round of the draft, participated in the first eleven games this season and even held a starting position in five of them.

While Jets coach Aaron Glenn did not disclose the specific reason for Smith’s absence, it seemed to hint at a disciplinary matter.

“Since Arian isn’t active, we’re going to keep that between him and me, just like I usually do with these situations,” Glenn mentioned. “You guys know I don’t discuss such matters often, and the players tend to keep things private. But I’ve said it before: he’s a crucial part of what we’re trying to accomplish. We’ve talked about it, and we’re looking ahead to getting him ready for the remainder of the season.”

As a rookie, Smith hasn’t made a significant mark on the game thus far.

He recorded six receptions for 47 yards and has seen considerable action on special teams. After the Jets dealt John Metchie III and Adonai Mitchell, Smith’s offensive involvement has notably decreased.

Field’s Role Considerations

Meanwhile, quarterback Justin Fields expressed mixed feelings about potentially taking on a role as a gadget player. He mentioned that coming in off the bench in cold conditions could pose risks of soft tissue injuries.

Glenn was asked for his take on utilizing Fields in such a capacity.

“Justin is essential to what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “If Tyrod [Taylor] goes down, he’s going to step in as the star. He understands that. Everything we prepare for with him is internalized in our strategy. He’s a team player, no doubt. I hope that clears up any confusion; he’s willing to do whatever it takes to help the team.”

Glenn also noted the only injury from the game was to safety Tony Adams, who is dealing with a groin issue.
