Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees’ Title Chase
As Aaron Judge approaches his 34th birthday in April, the possibility of him joining Don Mattingly as one of the modern New York Yankees’ captains without a World Series title seems more real. Judge, who has had an impressive run with three MVP awards in the last four seasons, still finds himself without the one accolade that really counts for Yankees fans: a championship.
Last season, after the Yankees were ousted from the American League Division Series, they are gearing up for a rematch against a similar roster.
The offseason had its rough patches, and Judge himself described it as “brutal.” He reflected that while other teams were making significant roster changes—trades, new signings—the Yankees appeared stagnant, focusing on smaller moves.
“It was tough to watch at times. I mean, we’re the New York Yankees; we should be out there making the big plays and getting the right players,” he mentioned with a sense of frustration.
However, he expressed satisfaction as the Yankees secured the return of players like Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham, and Paul Goldschmidt.
Judge noted, “With Bellinger now back, I think we can use Trent as our center fielder and leadoff man again. Adding someone like Goldschmidt strengthens our bullpen. It seems like we have a solid group of players here. Frustration aside, I believe we’re in a good position.”
Last season, the Yankees achieved the best record in the American League with 94 wins but ended up losing the tiebreaker to the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS.
Despite the disappointments, there seems to be a renewed confidence within the clubhouse. The team is hopeful as they attempt to capture their first title since 2009.
