Aaron Judge takes a day to recover ahead of Subway Series against the Mets

Aaron Judge Takes a Planned Day Off

Aaron Judge sat out of Thursday’s game, but there’s no cause for concern.

This was a scheduled day off for the outfielder, who had just come back Tuesday after being sidelined for 84 games due to a stress fracture in his right rib.

“I think he feels ready to play and wants to play, but probably at some level understands today,” manager Aaron Boone noted prior to the Yankees’ 10-3 victory over the Rockies. “Hopefully today serves as a good recovery day for him as we continue to build him up.”

Judge is expected to return to the lineup on Friday for the opening game of the Subway Series against the Mets.

Boone mentioned that Judge was available to pinch-hit, but that wasn’t necessary given the team’s comfortable lead.

In the two games since his return, Judge has recorded two hits in seven at-bats, featuring three strikeouts. After spending six innings in right field on Tuesday, he played eight innings the next day.

Pre-Game Ceremony to Honor 9/11 Victims

Brielle Saracini McGuire and her husband Sean will throw the ceremonial first pitches during a pre-game ceremony to honor 9/11 victims as part of the Subway Series opener on Friday.

Brielle’s father, Victor, tragically lost his life on 9/11 when the United flight he was piloting was hijacked and crashed into the World Trade Center.

Sean and Brielle first met at a camp for children whose parents died on 9/11 and later reconnected at Boston College.

Brielle was an avid Yankees fan growing up and became friends with notable figures such as Derek Jeter and then-New York Times reporter Jack Curry.

Now, Curry, who is a studio analyst at YES Network, remains a close friend of Brielle and her family. He will narrate a special six-minute video feature during the network’s pre-game coverage.

Updates on Other Yankees Players

Manager Boone was uncertain about the next steps for right-hander Clarke Schmidt, who made his fourth rehab appearance Wednesday with Double-A Somerset, tossing a scoreless inning on just 12 pitches.

Schmidt had surgery on his elbow last July to fix an internal brace.

In another development, the Yankees have sent outfielder Jasson Domínguez down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
