Aaron Judge teases Yankees adding another player: ‘You never know’

TAMPA — Aaron Judge said he was happy with the Yankees’ offseason additions after a season that “embarrassed” many players.

However, the captain wasn’t ready to close the door on other possible moves just yet.

With a number of free agents still on the market, including top pitchers Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery, Judge was asked Tuesday if the Yankees were still looking to make another move.

“I hope so,” Judge said after the first full team practice at Steinbrenner Field. “They’re always working. That’s the great thing about being here with the Yankees. They’re always trying to get better. They’re always trying to make a move, whether it’s a trade or free agency.

“I feel like there’s going to be another move along the way, but you never know. Let’s see.”

The Yankees are not believed to have made an offer for Snell, but like many teams, an offer could come if his price drops.

They had made him a contract offer earlier in the offseason, but it was more likely than not to sign Marcus Stroman to join a rotation led by Gerrit Cole that includes Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortés, and Clark Schmidt. That was before the conversion.

However, Judge praised the moves the Yankees made in acquiring Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham.

“We’re excited about the significant number of players we’ve added,” Judge said. “Juan Soto starts at the top, he’s in the top three of the lineup and brings versatility to the lineup. He’s going to get on base and hit the ball all over the ballpark. He’s been with us for a while. is a left-handed hitter in the middle that we needed. We’re adding Grisham, another left-handed hitter and a great outfielder who puts the ball in play. He’s done quite a bit of damage against us over the years. We have Verdugo, and now we have a chance to have him on our side.

“It’s going to give us a lot of different options that we didn’t have in the past few years, and we’re going to get to know them a little bit, see how they work, work together and work towards our goals. I’m just excited to move forward with the championship. ”
