Aaron Rodgers eliminates Saints from NFL free agency as options decrease in unfolding story

Aaron Rodgers has made it clear that he won’t be joining one NFC team in particular.

The controversial four-time NFL MVP dismissed any talk of signing with the New Orleans Saints while adding fuel to the speculation regarding a potential move to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During a Q&A session at a concert in Austin, Texas, fans from Louisiana were curious about his thoughts on the Saints. Rodgers responded definitively, saying, “No,” adding that he’s played in New Orleans before but emphasized, “I’m too old. I don’t want to live in Louisiana. Sorry.”

After the retirement of Derek Carr, some considered the Saints as a possible fit for Rodgers, especially since the franchise has seen some delays in its restructuring. But he definitely dismissed those rumors, and reports indicate that the Saints never took his interest seriously.

Instead, attention seems to be turning to the Steelers as perhaps the primary destination for Rodgers. In the same Q&A, he somewhat cryptically mentioned that “There are teams that may play in Chicago this year.”

Rodgers remains a key subject of interest as he has yet to officially sign with the Steelers, even though speculation has been rampant. Steelers owner Art Rooney II recently expressed that he’s willing to wait for Rodgers’ decision, which has reportedly been delayed due to personal matters affecting those close to him.

Last season, while playing for the Jets, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. However, the season ended disappointingly for the Jets, who finished 5-12, much lower than expected.

As of now, the Steelers’ starting quarterback position is held by Mason Rudolph, with rookies Will Howard and Skyler Thompson behind him.

As the offseason continues, Rodgers’ ultimate decision looms large in the NFL landscape. The Steelers, coming off a signing of DK Metcalf this season, await his choice, which could significantly shape their playoff prospects.

Pittsburgh is set to open its season against the Jets, creating an intriguing narrative if Rodgers decides to join the Steel City.
