Aaron Rodgers’ free agency saga takes Saints twist

Is there another twist in Aaron Rodgers' free agency saga?

The former Jets quarterback appeared to be heading for either the Steelers or the retirement, but news of Derek Kerr's shoulder injury on Friday means there may be another landing spot.

“Hope to see the report sooner [rather] Later, the saints reached out,” Mike Florio from the pro football talk. I wrote it on Friday. “We haven't seen it yet whether it goes anywhere or not. But New Orleans will be another option for Rogers.”

Car status in 2025 is reportedly in issue. And even if New Orleans was expected to take QB in the draft, the Saints depth chart looks terrible under the center.

Spencer Latler and Jake Hayner saw the action at the end of the 2024 season when Kerr missed a broken bone in his hand. And, like Ben Dinucci, both are still on the roster. But isn't it clear whether the saints consider any of them as a viable starting option in 2025?

New Orleans has about $27 million in cap space, according to Spotrac. In theory, a considerable chunk could be used to land Rogers.

The 41-year-old is finishing his season when he pitched 3,897 yards for 11 interceptions with 28 touchdowns in the disappointing 5-12 jet campaign.

He's watching his already limited options reduce this offseason as the Giants and Vikings chose other tracks.

The Saints create attractive landing sites for a surefire Hall of Fame, but the team also has other options.

Kirk Cousins could also join the mix, but it's rare for New Orleans to bail out divisional rivals from the rough 36-year-old contract.
