Aaron Rodgers’ free agency situation is not a distraction, says Steelers star.

Aaron Rodgers’ Future and Team Dynamics

Aaron Rodgers remains a free agent, and amid speculation, his situation seems to be closely linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Recently, Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith noted that the ongoing rumors about Rodgers aren’t causing any distractions for the team.

Highsmith shared his thoughts, saying, “It feels like we’re just in the locker room, focused on what we can control.” He emphasized that while they’re aware of Rodgers’ impressive credentials as a Hall of Fame quarterback, the team is focused on their current preparations.

Last season, the Steelers finished with a record of 10-7, with quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields leading the charge. However, both have now entered free agency, heading to the New York Jets and New York Giants, respectively.

Regarding the current quarterback lineup, the Steelers have Mason Rudolph, Skyler Thompson, and rookie Will Howard. Highsmith expressed his enthusiasm about whoever ends up taking the snaps. “Mason has been fantastic; he really helped us in 2023,” he mentioned. He believes that regardless of whether it’s Rudolph or Rodgers, the team is ready to rally around whoever steps onto the field.

Last season with the Jets, Rodgers recorded notable statistics, throwing for nearly 4,000 yards and securing 28 touchdowns. There’s still uncertainty about whether he’ll choose to continue playing in 2025 or retire after a storied career.

Highsmith has been an integral part of the Steelers’ defense, accumulating 35.5 sacks over 77 games in his five seasons with the team, and is looking forward to the next chapter—whatever that may be.
