Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) claimed Sunday that the state’s installation of razor wire at a park in Eagle Pass, Texas, has “significantly reduced” the flow of migrants in the area.
Abbott was joined by several other governors Sunday on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” to voice support for Texas’ “right to self-defense” as migrants increase at the U.S. southern border. He said he would make a statement. This comes as Mr. Abbott is embroiled in an ongoing feud with the Biden administration over its handling of the border.
“That’s why these governors have rallied across Texas to support our continued right to self-defense and the deployment of razor wire, which has led to a significant reduction in inflows,” Abbott said. Ta. “Maria, get this. The area we occupied this park in Eagle Pass, Texas, where we installed razor wire, used to have 3,000 or 4,000 people a day crossing that area.”
“Over the past three days, on average, only three people have crossed the area. The important thing is to show that we can secure the border if we continue to resist. Joe Biden should not stop that.” he continued.
Texas began installing razor wire along its border with Mexico last year, but the Biden administration contends the state does not have the authority to do so. Texas is doubling down on attacks on razor wire, and state officials say they have the right to protect the state from an influx of immigrants.
The conflict escalated last month when the state of Texas fenced off a public park in Eagle Pass, Texas, and installed razor wire without notifying local authorities. State law enforcement then blocked U.S. Border Patrol agents from entering the park, which also includes the area’s main boat launch.
The Supreme Court ruled last month that Border Patrol agents could remove razor wire installed by Texas, but the federal government argued that Border Patrol agents could not perform their duties at the border. Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, the Texas National Guard appears to have continued installing razor wire.
Abbott also doubled down on last month’s invasion declaration and reiterated that President Biden is not doing enough to secure the border. A number of Republican governors have signed on to support Texas in its fight against the Biden administration.
“Maria, more than half of the governors are now united in support of a very important proposal. That is, if our state faces imminent harm or invasion, we are guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution the right to self-defense. “Texas clearly faces both immediate harm and invasion,” Abbott said Sunday.
