ABC Interrupted Trump More Because They Didn’t Fact-Check ‘More Normal’ Falsehoods

During Wednesday's episode of Fox News Channel's “Your World,” Harris-Waltz campaign co-chairs acknowledged that ABC debate moderators David Muir and Lindsey Davis did not correct 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris as much as they did 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump because “Trump said something outrageous, not just a misrepresentation of fact,” and that fact-checking “is more normal, more standard” and should happen the day after the debate.

host Neil Cavuto asked. [relevant exchange begins around 2:00] “Senator, I certainly found that he should have been interrupted and fact-checked when it came to the topic of immigrants eating cats and dogs and the like and then killing the babies that come out of the womb. … But he always denied it when Kamala Harris told the big lie of her supposed support for Project 2025, and her views on IVF. In fact, he wants the federal government to cover those costs for couples. And, you know, they're on the brink of that everywhere, but we don't have U.S. troops in combat zones overseas. So I would say there was more leeway for her to make those statements than Donald Trump, but what do you think of this?”

Coons responded, “Well, I think he not only misrepresented the facts, he told a big lie. His claim that you just mentioned, that in one town — I think it was Springfield, Ohio — record numbers of immigrants are killing and eating people's pets, was interrupted at that exact moment by the moderator to say that's been disproven, that there's absolutely no evidence for it. And, frankly, I think that's part of your role, Neil, the next day in the press … part of what we do in the post-debate debate is to fact-check the more normal, standard things, which is, has inflation gone up this much under your president, have manufacturing jobs increased under your president, etc.”

Kuhn went on to say there were some things that could be debated “factually” – for example, the job growth record – before Cavuto interrupted to ask whether Harris would debate again.
