ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott was questioned about her contentious exchange with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during her appearance on “The View” last Tuesday.
“I think people need to understand that one of the greatest things about American democracy is a free press, and nowhere is that better represented than in Congress,” Scott said, responding to co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin.
“My job is first and foremost to always be respectful, but also to always ask the tough questions. Congress may not necessarily like those questions. They don’t have to answer the questions, but I’m going to keep asking them anyway,” the reporter added.
Last week, Scott posted a video in which he questioned Pelosi about President Biden remaining in the White House race, but Pelosi became infuriated by Scott’s question and at one point said, “Am I speaking English to you?” The video quickly went viral.

“The View” co-host Joy Behar responded to Scott’s comments, insisting that Pelosi answered her question.
“Even though she said she didn’t want to take questions in the hallway, she said she believed President Biden could actually win the election. After I asked her the question, she responded, which led to a follow-up and we all know what happened from there,” Scott said.
“With all due respect, I’m not going to debate with you or anyone else about what I’m talking about with the president,” Persoy told Scott during the tense exchange. “I’m not going to be commenting in the hallway today about the fate of our country, OK?”

Scott also spoke about his experience covering a Trump rally on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the former president survived an assassination attempt.
“Seventy-two hours later, it still doesn’t make sense,” Scott said. “All of a sudden, I heard this pop, pop, pop, pop. I thought it was a firecracker or something. Then the whole crowd started yelling, ‘Shots are being fired, get down, get down.’ I told my CBS colleague next to me to get on the ground. Security pulled me off the press table and we took cover.”

“My incredible colleague at NBC, Jake Traylor, protected me in that moment,” Scott continued. “You know what was going on in your head? It may have only been a few seconds, but it felt like time really slowed down, and we started playing the ‘what if’ game of what would happen if the gunman got away.”
