Abdul Carter’s Struggles Continue with Giants

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — It seems that Giants rookie Abdul Carter is in a tough spot.

He was benched for the second time in three games by interim head coach Mike Kafka for not adhering to team protocols, particularly missing his responsibilities, according to league sources. This issue appears to be part of a pattern; Carter has struggled with punctuality this season, although some have argued against the notion that he’s chronically late.

“We’ve got to be better,” Carter remarked. “I need to take pride in what I do and ensure I’m where I need to be. It really is that straightforward.”

Carter entered the game during the first quarter as the Patriots scored 10 points on their first two possessions.

Despite the Giants trailing 17-0, Carter continued on the field, eventually getting a touchdown on a punt return.

“I won’t go into details,” Carter said. “It happens.”

A couple of weeks back, Carter missed a 15-minute walk-through because he was using a red light therapy bed at the training facility. He firmly denied that he had fallen asleep during that session, stating it was part of his recovery routine.

It’s perplexing that lessons from previous benchings haven’t stuck, but teammates are wondering what they can learn from his experience.

“He really needs to grow up,” said captain Dexter Lawrence. “Carter seems to love football and takes it seriously, which is commendable for someone his age.”

When questioned about Carter’s apparent inability to learn from his missteps, Lawrence described him as “hard-headed.”

“It’s definitely frustrating for those of us who showed up on time,” Lawrence added. “But, we need to support him and help him navigate these mistakes.”

Interim head coach Kafka is aiming to establish a culture of accountability—something that was somewhat lacking under former head coach Brian Daboll, who managed star players more leniently and enforced fines discreetly.

“It’s my call,” Kafka stated. “It all depends on how the week unfolds.”

Carter came into the game with just a half-sack across 12 outings but managed to add his first full sack. With Kayvon Thibodeau sidelined by injury, this benching couldn’t have come at a worse time for him.

“I know he won’t make the same choices as I did, but I just want to be there for him, coach him, and support him in any way possible,” said captain Brian Burns. “I think the message is clear; this was just a mistake.”

Since Kafka took the reins three weeks ago, he has modified the schedules for meetings, walk-throughs, and practices.

“As a professional, it’s crucial to know where you should be and when,” Lawrence commented. “There have been some changes, but it’s not a daily adjustment. He just has to adapt.”
