Abolish borders activist says she met with Biden administration ICE chief

The activist, who has the hashtag “Abolish Borders” on his Twitter profile, said he met with the acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday.

“Yesterday, I met with the new chief of staff for ICE. [Michael Lumpkin] To make clear our demand for a world without ICE detention and a future where all people can live freely with the support of their communities and loved ones, rather than being locked up in immigration detention.” Human Rights Defense Director Setare Gandehari wrote. In a Twitter thread, Gandehari called on the Biden administration to “shut down detention centers like Torlane, Wynn, and Adelanto, which exemplify conditions that are completely beyond repair.” [sic] The unnecessary detention system must be completely abolished. ”

She accused the president of reneging on his promise of a “humane immigration system.”

The talks came as negotiators finalized parts of a bipartisan deal. border agreement and sent it to the Senate Appropriations Committee to see how the new policy would be funded.
