About 4-in-10 Americans say Trump is a ‘terrible’ president amid sinking approval: Survey

A new poll shows about four in 10 Americans say President Trump was the “bad” leader in his second term.

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research also found that about two in ten people are doing average jobs in the presidency, and that three in ten people say they are great or good presidents.

The poll also found that 24% of adults believe Trump is focusing on appropriate priorities.

44% say Trump is focusing on the wrong priorities of AP-NORC public opinion.

The low numbers reflect national polls that measured a decline in favor and recognition ratings of the 47th president.

Opinions differed greatly for respondents based on the affiliation of the parties.

Republicans overwhelmingly agreed to the president’s decision during their first few months in the oval.

Over half of GOP members, over 54%, said he is focused on the right task, 26% said he is targeting an even combination of issues, and 13% said he has the wrong priorities.

“He’s really doing what he said he was trying to do,” Tanner Bergstrom, a 29-year-old Republican from Minnesota, told The Associated Press.

He added that Trump “has not been committed to, he’s in office, nothing happens… I really like it. I’m still doing what he said he’s trying to do, even if it’s something I disagree with.”

Democrats are largely leaning from those views. 75% of party members believe Trump has the wrong priorities, while 11% say he is a mix of even numbers of good and bad things.

“It seems he’s really doing everything he can to make the wrong decision,” Gabriel Antonucci, a 26-year-old Democrat from South Carolina, told the Associated Press. “Things will probably get worse in four years than they are now,” he continued.

42% of independents say Trump has the wrong priorities and 30% have an even mix.

The AP-NORC poll used Amerispeak’s probability-based method to survey 1,260 adults from April 17th to April 21st. The margin for sampling errors in a vote is either positive or negative 3.9 percentage points.
