Aces, Lynx, and Fever start with the strongest prospects

WNBA Finals Summary and Future Outlook

As the final seconds of Game 4 ticked down in the WNBA Finals, ESPN’s Ryan Ruoco captured the moment succinctly: “A dynasty was declared.” Indeed, the Las Vegas Aces clinched their third championship in four seasons, propelled by A’ja Wilson’s exceptional play. She snagged titles for Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, and WNBA Finals MVP this season.

Looking ahead, attention is shifting toward next year, with odds already set for the 2026 WNBA Championship.

The Aces are among the favorites, sharing this spot with the Minnesota Lynx, who finished as 2024 runners-up. Close behind are the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty, with the Phoenix Mercury, last year’s runner-up, still in striking distance at +850.

Next offseason could be pivotal in WNBA history, with the competition expected to be fiercer than ever.

One of the key issues on the table is the negotiation of a new collective bargaining agreement. After Lynx star Napheesa Collier made pointed comments about the league’s leadership, the spotlight is on these talks. The players’ union, where Collier serves as vice president, is advocating for higher salaries and increased revenue sharing. Not to mention, many star athletes are set to become unrestricted free agents, meaning they’ll have more leverage to negotiate lucrative contracts. If a deal isn’t reached by the October 31 deadline, we might see some major disruptions to the offseason.

This offseason will also see two new teams join the league, the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo, following the introduction of the Golden State Valkyries.

Amid all these changes, the Aces continue to be a formidable force. They’ve been so successful that it’s hard to imagine them falling short again. A’ja Wilson could potentially hit the free agency market, but losing her seems unlikely given her extraordinary talent.

The Indiana Fever also warrant attention. They nearly upset the Aces in the playoffs, even with Caitlin Clark sidelined for much of the season due to injuries. If she can remain healthy, this team might pose a bigger threat next year.

Predicted picks: Aces (+350) | Fever (+390)
