Pro-abortion activists in Nebraska last week asked Taylor Swift’s fans to help enshrine a purported abortion “right” into the state constitution.
Protect Our Rights, a left-wing coalition leading the abortion reform movement in Nebraska, attended a Taylor Swift-themed party called Taylor Fest. waiting room lounge WOWT will be held in Omaha on February 16th. report. According to the report, the coalition was “circulating a petition calling for a ballot initiative that would put abortion rights to a referendum in November 2024.”
“There are a lot of people in the state who support abortion rights, and a lot of them are Taylor Swift fans,” said Sandy Griffin, data director for the Nebraska Citizens’ Action Table, a coalition member.
The strategy was announced amid debate over how much influence mega-pop star Taylor Swift will have in future elections, most importantly the 2024 presidential election. President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, which has made abortion a top priority, is reportedly hoping to secure his support and is likely to win over younger female voters.
Outside of politics, Swift’s appearance alone at the Super Bowl drew a record number of female viewers. Additionally, an analysis of the fuss Swift has brought to the NFL reveals that she has earned over 300 million yen to the league thanks to all the publicity and social media buzz she generated with her romance with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. It was found to have resulted in a $31 million increase in brand value.
Protect Our Rights is a coalition of several left-wing groups, including the ACLU of Nebraska, Planned Parenthood, and the Nebraska Civic Engagement Table. The group submitted a draft petition to the Nebraska Secretary of State in October and made the petition available for signature in November. The coalition began its efforts in response to a pro-life defeat in Ohio on November 7th.

The initiative comes after Republican Gov. Jim Pillen signed a bill in May 2023 restricting abortions at 12 weeks of pregnancy. Before the 12-week limit went into effect, Nebraska limited abortions to 20 weeks of pregnancy.
For the amendment to appear on the ballot in 2024, the coalition needs to collect approximately 125,000 valid signatures by July.
Activists in at least nine other states are working to put abortion amendments on next year’s ballots, following a string of pro-abortion victories at the state level next fall. Roe vs. Wade – The 1973 Supreme Court decision that invented the “right” to abortion for 50 years.
