Shane Gillis’ SNL Monologue Sparks Controversy
Comedian Shane Gillis stirred up controversy during his recent “Saturday Night Live” monologue, particularly among leftist audiences. One notable backlash came from actor Dan Levy, who vocally addressed the issues raised.
In his routine, Gillis made various remarks, but the one that seemed to trigger the most ire was his comment on women dressing provocatively at gyms, which he described rather bluntly. “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now,” he said, which, well—let’s just say it didn’t sit well with a lot of people.
He illustrated his point further, discussing the kinds of shorts he claimed women wear, comparing them to “artificial bait colors,” with quite the visual detail that was, frankly, unexpected. “For real, don’t look because they are filming. I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now,” he joked, trying to lighten the mood.
The audience may have laughed, but the online reaction was anything but humorous. Dan Levy, known for his role in “Schitt’s Creek,” shared his thoughts in an Instagram video, stating, “Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists.” He expressed disbelief that such a comment could be aired live, emphasizing the need for men to voice their opposition. Levy pointed out that it’s complacency that fosters an environment where women face harassment, which he framed as a serious issue rather than a mere joke.
Levy insisted that women are not objects, reiterating their superior status to men. He ended his commentary with a passionate, if mildly exasperated, declaration that this kind of speech should not be tolerated.
This isn’t Gillis’ first brush with controversy. He was initially hired for “SNL” in 2019 but was quickly fired after past comments surfaced, deemed offensive by critics. Interestingly enough, his comeback as a host has attracted even more scrutiny from those who believe he should remain, well, canceled.
In fact, this past Saturday marked his third time hosting “SNL,” and it’s clear that not everyone is pleased about it.
