Matt Damon Criticizes ICE at Film Premiere

During an interview at the premiere of his new film, actor Matt Damon expressed concerns about the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), particularly highlighting issues related to their training. This was shared while he attended the Netflix premiere of “The Rip” and wore a ‘Be Good’ pin in response to the recent shooting of Renee Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

Damon described the incident as “incredibly disturbing” and noted that many are anxious and closely monitoring such behavior on the streets. He expressed that the lack of proper training among some agents is a cause for concern. “I’ve heard from a lot of my friends in law enforcement that was not the way they would have handled the situation,” he remarked. He emphasized the importance of public discourse regarding the kind of society people want to inhabit.

There has been visible support for the “Be Good” message, with several celebrities wearing similar pins at occasions like the Golden Globes, including Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, Jean Smart, and Ariana Grande.

In Minneapolis, protests have erupted following the incident that led to Good’s death at the hands of ICE officers. Local officials, including Mayor Jacob Frey, have also voiced criticism regarding the agency’s actions. Sykes, speaking on the red carpet, shared her sorrow, stating, “We need to get out there and shut down this rogue government, because what they’re doing to people is really terrible.”

These events have triggered a wider conversation about immigration enforcement and community safety, reflecting differing opinions on the role of ICE in society.
