A Hollywood actor and producer, Shane Ryan Gledhill, who has worked with well-known stars like Shelley Duvall and Richard Dreyfuss, is now facing 24 felony charges. These charges stem from allegations that he used online casting calls and his film projects to exploit underage victims.
Gledhill, 46, from Lompoc, was taken into custody on August 3 after a lengthy investigation by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives, which focused on claims of child sexual abuse and exploitation over nearly five years.
Initially charged with 15 felonies, the number of charges has now risen to 24. Gledhill is currently being held on a $500,000 bail, with a preliminary hearing set for September 9 at the Lompoc Superior Court in Santa Barbara.
The investigation began in November 2021 when a 17-year-old survivor reported inappropriate behavior by Gledhill that allegedly took place when she was 15. This prompted detectives to discover two more survivors during their initial inquiries.
As the investigation unfolded, a total of nine survivors were identified, all minors at the time of the alleged offenses. On February 23, 2022, authorities executed a search warrant at Gledhill’s home on Courtney Drive, where they seized thousands of digital files for further forensic analysis.
Investigators say Gledhill, also known by the names “Shane Ryan” and “Shane Ryan Reed,” had contacted survivors through online recruitment efforts and various film projects, potentially using these avenues to lure aspiring young actors and filmmakers.
Gledhill had an extensive background in Hollywood, with an IMDb profile showcasing appearances in around 120 films and production of over 150 projects featuring big names like Ed Harris and Tom Arnold. His work included collaborations with numerous prominent figures in the industry.
As the investigation progressed, authorities believe the alleged misconduct could extend beyond Santa Barbara County, with potential additional survivors identified along California’s central coast, Los Angeles County, and even on the East Coast.
Interestingly, one of Gledhill’s films from 2006 depicts a serial killer who kidnaps and manipulates underage girls, which adds another layer of complexity to the situation. In that film, Gledhill portrayed a rapist and murderer, further blurring the lines between his professional work and the allegations against him.
In a 2018 interview, he mentioned that the film’s second installment was “more graphic” and included “real penetration,” which raised eyebrows at the time.
The 24 felonies he is now facing include child sexual abuse, rape, forcible sexual assault, and possession of child sexual abuse material, among others. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, suggesting there may still be more survivors to come forward.
Gledhill remains in custody at the Northern Branch Jail after his arrest on August 3, with the bail still set at $500,000.
