Vincent D’Onofrio has faced quite a few challenges in preparing for his role as Kingpin, the notorious comic book antagonist. In a recent episode of the podcast “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum,” the 66-year-old actor shared insights about portraying the character across various Marvel TV series.
“I don’t have to gain weight anymore for the Marvel role, which is great for my health and all that,” he mentioned. He reflected on how, in the past, gaining and losing weight was a struggle. “It’s just easier now that I can use this fat suit or muscle suit,” he noted.
D’Onofrio described the suit as not just heavy, but also hot and constrictive, explaining how it envelops him from ankle to wrist.
The actor first adopted the Kingpin role in the Netflix series Daredevil from 2015 to 2018 and later reprised it in Hawkeye and the 2023 miniseries Echo. More recently, he has been involved in two seasons of “Daredevil: Born Again.”
Known as Wilson Fisk, Kingpin is characterized as a formidable crime lord within Marvel’s New York City. In the new series, he’s attempting to clean up his image by running for mayor.
In the upcoming season of the show, fans can expect an intense fight scene between Kingpin and Daredevil, which D’Onofrio described as reminiscent of earlier scenes from the Netflix series.
He shared, “I really enjoy those moments. Charlie and I don’t get to shoot together often, and he’s really honed his craft.” His excitement for collaborating with Charlie Cox is evident, emphasizing their long history with their roles and the unique connection they share with their characters.
Before D’Onofrio’s turn as Kingpin, Ben Affleck had taken on the title role in the 2003 film Daredevil, which featured his future wife, Jennifer Garner, as Elektra.
The pair first crossed paths when they worked on “Pearl Harbor” in 2000. While they both had other relationships at the time, their connection deepened while filming “Daredevil” when they were both single.
After reconnecting on set, Affleck and Garner married in June 2005, welcoming three children during their decade-long marriage before divorcing in 2015.
Affleck has since expressed gratitude for his co-parenting relationship with Garner, calling her a wonderful partner and someone he works well with.
