Charithra Chandran Sparks Controversy with Ceasefire Comments
“One Piece” actress Charithra Chandran has generated criticism for her recent call for political change without fully understanding the context. During a press event on the Oscar red carpet, she urged for a ceasefire in Gaza, seemingly unaware that such a ceasefire had been in place for nearly six months.
Chandran, while wearing a ceasefire pin, expressed her sentiments. “This is a ceasefire pin, artist. What we want is a ceasefire in Gaza,” she told reporters. She added, “I feel so blessed to have a platform and it’s the least I can do to take advantage of it. Sometimes the news cycle is so fast and people move on, but the people of Gaza and the West Bank are still suffering.”
Political commentator Guy Benson responded on social media, suggesting that many celebrities live in a “privileged and ignorant bubble.” He argued that they should be treated accordingly. Similarly, Oli London remarked that Chandran was advocating for a ceasefire even though it had already been established for quite some time.
In reaction, some internet users expressed their frustration. Many commented that “celebrities need to STFU,” and others shared memes that poked fun at how out of touch Hollywood stars can be. One user remarked, “They’re like ships without a rudder because no one tells them what to say, just flopping around in a vast ocean.” Another quipped about how confusing alternative realities can be.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect on October 10, 2025, following an announcement by President Donald Trump on October 8, declaring both sides had accepted the initial phase of a peace plan. Despite this, there have been ongoing clashes in Gaza since then.
