Adam Amin uses ‘deep drive to left’ call for Nick Castellanos homer

Adam Amin was helpless.

After Nick Castellanos hit the ball high over the left field fence, the Fox Sports play-by-play announcer concluded his commentary with Thom Brennaman’s famous call-and-response of Castellanos’ home run.

“In London you can expect some hard hits down left wing,” Amin said before the Phillies’ 7-2 win over the Mets at West Ham United’s home ground on Saturday.

It was an ode to a call Brennaman, the former Reds play-by-play announcer, made in 2020 when he apologized on-air.

Brennaman was caught using a homophobic slur on live television during a game in August that season.

He later apologized to his listeners for Castellanos’ tirade.

Brennaman interrupted himself to say it was a “drive to the left wing” before returning to apologize.

“I’m very embarrassed that some of my comments were aired tonight. I take pride in who I am and consider myself a man of faith,” Brennaman said after Castellanos pitched a pitch to left field against the Royals. “Castellanos hit the ball to deep left field for a home run and the game would be 4-0.”

“I don’t know if I’ll ever put this headset on again,” Brennaman added.

Brennaman hasn’t broadcast professional sports since, with his only on-air work being calling Roberto Clemente League games in Puerto Rico and high school sports in Cincinnati.

Castellanos went 1-for-4 in Saturday’s game for the win.
