Khanna Calls for Accountability from Musk Over Spending Cuts

Representative Ro Khanna from California expressed serious concerns on Saturday regarding the impact of spending cuts initiated by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, claiming that “4.5 million children” could be facing dire consequences due to these changes.

Khanna suggested that if Democrats regain control of Congress, they should take steps to hold Musk responsible for his actions. “When you come to power, accountability is key,” he stated during an appearance on the “I’ve Had It” podcast. “Musk is celebrated for creating wealth for 4,400 billionaires, yet little attention is given to the 4.5 million children around the world who might be adversely affected by the dismantling of USAID.”

He elaborated, saying, “He needs to answer for that. We can’t just move on. He should be subpoenaed and investigated for his decisions regarding DOGE,” referring to the Department of Government Efficiency.

Podcast host Jennifer Welch agreed with Khanna, indicating that Musk’s actions could lead to widespread harm. She argued that the consequences of spending cuts are, in her words, akin to “murdering” many people in need.

“It’s crucial to emphasize, as you noted, that celebrating Musk’s financial achievements comes at a cost. If you’re claiming to be a pro-life party, like MAGA does, then Elon Musk is effectively harming millions of the world’s poorest,” Welch remarked, pointing out what she sees as glaring hypocrisy.

FOX News Digital reached out to Khanna’s office as well as Tesla and SpaceX for their responses but did not receive comments. Following a record-breaking IPO by SpaceX earlier this month that made Musk the wealthiest individual in the world, criticism from Democratic politicians and mainstream media has intensified.

Khanna also highlighted a new tax initiative, the Billionaires’ Fair Share Act, which aims to impose a 5% tax on the wealth of billionaires like Musk, applied to assets above $1 billion annually rather than just their income. He emphasized the deep economic inequalities in the country, with places like Silicon Valley prospering while many families struggle to afford basic needs like healthcare and housing. “By implementing reasonable taxes on billionaires, we can provide fair opportunities for all while supporting innovation,” Khanna mentioned in a press release back in March.
