Adam Fox comes off IR, returns to lineup in huge Rangers boost

COLOMBUS, Ohio — Adam Fox was revitalized from an injured reserve ahead of the Rangers' matchup against the Blue Jackets Saturday night.

The 27-year-old defender probably suffered when he fell on his shoulder after being caught up in Kyle McLean in a 5-1 victory for the Islanders on February 25th.

“He's leaning like that,” coach Peter Laviolet said when asked if Fox would play the Blue Jacket on Saturday night before the defensive man was ultimately suited to the Rangers.

“Whenever you lose one of your top guys, a top producer, you'll feel it. I think the other guys stepped up, we've done some good things. It's nice to have him there when he comes back.”

It was the second-longest injury stint for Fox's six-year NHL career after Jericho, New York, missed 10 consecutive wins with a knee injury in the reserves he injured last season.

Of course, the injury was exacerbated with the playoffs and limited foxes.

Fox registered at least points in each of his last seven games, with two goals and six assists on top of that.

Despite missing out as much time as he did, Fox is still tied with Mika Zibanejad for the team's third-most point with 48 (5 goals, 43 assists).

Fox, along with JT Miller, Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin and Zibanejad, took the rep with his regular post at the top of the Rangers' first power play unit.

Zach Jones hit the quarterback with Vincent Trokek, Alexis Lafreniere, Johnny Brosinski and Will Quile.

If Fox was good to go on Saturday night, Carson Sussy was expected to serve as a healthy wound after spending extra time on arena ice throughout the country in the morning.

He was expected to be seen from the press box with the wounds of Calvin de Hahn and Yuso Perssinen.
