On Wednesday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams shared that certain streets in Manhattan have been “temporarily co-named” to honor notable players from the New York Knicks.
The city has put up blue and orange signs at 15 intersections across Manhattan, each corresponding to a player’s jersey number.
In his statement, Adams expressed, “The Knicks represent the essence of New York – they are resilient, passionate, and unstoppable. As they aim for the championship, we want to acknowledge the effort and determination that propelled this team into the Eastern Conference Finals. We’re celebrating them by temporarily naming streets, allowing every New Yorker to join in on the Knicks Pride.”
The Knicks are set to play the Indiana Pacers that very night, marking their first appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years after a victory over the Boston Celtics.
A brief video released by the New York City Department of Transport mentions that the signage will be put up on Wednesday and will remain throughout the Knicks’ playoff journey.
“The New York Knicks are integral to our city’s culture, boasting the best fans in the NBA,” stated Ydanis Rodríguez from the New York City Department of Transport. “The buzz around the city is palpable as the Eastern Conference Finals unfold. I take pride in overseeing the blue and orange, which includes these street sign changes.”
