Eric Adams will likely face expanded charges as he returns to Manhattan federal court in a case accusing him of accepting bribes and illegal campaign contributions, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Asked if federal authorities planned to file a so-called “alternative indictment” in the case, Prosecutor Hagan Scotten told the judge: “I think it's extremely likely.”
“Additional defendants are likely to be indicted,” prosecutors said, adding that the new indictment could include further charges against the mayor.
The bombshell came moments after Mr. Hizzoner gave a thumbs-up after being heckled on his way to a lower Manhattan courthouse for a hearing before Judge Dale Ho.
“I'm resigning! The entire government,” one furious man said. “Criminal. You're a criminal. You're a sellout. Quit, you son of a bitch.”
The hearing will be Adams' first court appearance since he pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, wire fraud and bribery charges in a historic arraignment last Friday.
Adams, the first sitting New York City mayor to be criminally indicted, is accused of accepting inappropriate gifts from Turkish officials and businessmen, including $123,000 in free or deeply discounted hotel and airline tickets, dating back to his time in Brooklyn. He is accused of having committed a crime. The president ten years ago.

He also fraudulently obtained $10 million in campaign funds, federal prosecutors allege in a five-count indictment.
In exchange for alleged prizes, Mr. Adams offered favors, including pressuring city officials to expedite approval of a Turkish consulate in Manhattan, according to court documents.
