Administration files lawsuit against Los Angeles regarding sanctuary city practices

Trump Administration Sues Los Angeles Over Sanctuary Policy

In a significant move, the Trump administration has filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles. The administration argues that the city’s sanctuary policy is obstructing federal immigration officials from effectively performing their duties.

Attorney General Pam Bondy stated, “The Sanctuary policy was a key factor in the violence and confusion that many have recently observed in Los Angeles.” She continued by emphasizing that cities like Los Angeles, which prioritize undocumented immigrants over American citizens, undermine law enforcement. “That will stop under President Trump,” she added.

The lawsuit claims that Los Angeles treats Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) differently than other law enforcement agencies, effectively discriminating against federal authorities. The Justice Department argues that this treatment is unconstitutional and seeks to have judges block the city’s policy.

According to the lawsuit, “The laws and policies of the Sanctuary City are intentionally designed to obstruct federal immigration officials from carrying out their responsibilities in these areas.” It notes that Los Angeles has implemented ordinances that limit federal access to property and individuals in detention, making it difficult for federal officials to operate effectively.

Protests and riots erupted in Los Angeles earlier this month during ICE operations, which prompted President Trump to legally challenge the deployment of the National Guard. Mayor Karen Bass condemned the violence but remarked that the military deployment seemed to escalate tensions.

Reflecting on the impact of ICE operations, Mayor Bass said, “Last Thursday, ICE caused significant disruption in our city, chasing individuals through businesses and even targeting schools and emergency facilities.”

Fox News reached out to the city for comments but did not receive a response immediately.
