On Tuesday, federal prosecutors arrested 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhidi for plotting to kill Americans on November 5th.th.
The plan appears to have been in the works for some time, as Tawhidi had liquidated his family's assets and resettled them overseas in preparation for the plan. In addition, he had an arsenal of semi-automatic firearms and ammunition that he intended to use when carrying out the attack.
“As per the indictment, the Department of Justice thwarted defendant's plot to acquire semi-automatic weapons and carry out violent attacks in the name of ISIS on U.S. soil on Election Day,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland. “We will continue to combat the continuing threat ISIS and its supporters pose to America's national security, and will identify, investigate, and prosecute those who seek to terrorize the American people.” I am deeply grateful to the public servants at the FBI, the National Security Agency, and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Oklahoma for their work to stop this attack and the work they do every day to protect our country. ”
“This defendant was motivated by ISIS and is alleged to have conspired to carry out a violent attack here in our homeland on Election Day,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said.
The 27-year-old first came to the United States in 2021 on a special immigrant visa.
Electronic records accessed by the FBI show Tauhedi frequently watched ISIS propaganda. He donated to charities that “defend ISIS and funnel money to ISIS.”
