For 97 years, members of the Academy of Motion Pictures were allowed to vote for films they didn’t care about watching.
This new rule, which monitors all movies in all categories voters vote for, will come into effect in time for 98th Academy Awards Ceremony Next March.
“In procedural changes, academy members must watch all nominated films in each category so that they are eligible to vote in the final round of Oscars®,” the academy announced Monday. “All designated candidates will also be included in the final vote.”
One of the reasons why Breitbart News doesn’t publish its end-of-year “Best of” list is due to the fact that it doesn’t show everything. It seems unfair to rule out those invisible titles. But for almost a century, Oscar voters were encouraged to watch films that are responsible for (or not) committing history.
And over the years, Oscar voters have been increasingly speaking about admitting they don’t watch all titles in every nomination category.
Still, they voted.
It’s nuts.
It’s like voting for Miss America without worrying about checking out every state.
But the question now is how the Film Academy intends to implement this rule. Ticket stub? Attendance record? Pop quiz?
The truth is that the academy cannot do this. It can only be encouraged with more rules that can be easily avoided. Most voters watch these movies at home through special streaming apps. What can be measured is whether the film was streamed and streamed from start to finish. You can’t confirm that a particular Oscar voter sat there and saw it all.
Listen, I’ll get it… no one needs to Clockwork orange I’m to see evil or Emilia Perez And then I decide whether I like them or not. I know I hate them. If you hate it Sand Dunesdo you really need to see? Sand Dune 2?
But this is why I don’t make the “best” list. I am not qualified unless I have never seen everything and close enough to everything. If I were an Oscar voter, I would definitely see everything because of the responsibility to get involved. Oscars are history. Oscars create and destroy careers. Oscars can make and destroy the entire film.
At the same time, if the film recently asked to become an Oscar voter, I would say no without hesitation as there is no way I’m looking at that crap, especially gay stuff.
Now, if you have a list of Oscar winners over 97 years, if you need to always see what they voted for, or you need to always watch what you disagree with, you need to wonder how the list of Oscar winners over 97 years is different.
