After promising ‘Opportunity Agenda’ for black men, Harris campaign says program will be open to all races

The Harris-Waltz campaign appeared to backtrack on the exclusive nature of the Opportunity for Black Men policy on Wednesday after many mocked the policy on social media.

After polls showed Vice President Kamala Harris winning significant support from the black community, especially men, the Democratic presidential campaign pushed a list of things that would appeal to black men.

“Some KKK members are less racist than this document.”

Just two days later, the campaign confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that the policy would apply to other Americans on a “race-neutral” basis.

policy Contains 1 million fully forgivable loans to Black entrepreneurs, decriminalizing marijuana possession, protecting Black men's crypto investments, and supporting job training and education programs for Black people.

Posts on Harris' account on social media have garnered more than 34 million views, many of which included jeers and ridicule from people who view her as racist and patronizing.

“If 40% of your scheme to enrich black men involves cryptocurrencies and cannabis, you’re probably doing it wrong.” read One of the most common reactions.

“Constitutionally dubious pandering aside, if you guys started saying things like this all the time, I might really lose my mind.” answered Another critic.

“Wait for her agenda to help black men promote crypto and cannabis?” read another response. “Some KKK members are less racist than this document.”

others pointed out It's odd that Harris supports marijuana decriminalization after jailing so many people for marijuana offenses when she was California's attorney general.

CNN polling analyst Harry Enten has documented how the black vote, especially black men, has been slipping away from Democrats for decades. The black vote still favors Democrats reliably, but the margin is becoming smaller and smaller.

“This is part of a long-standing trend of young black men leaving the Democratic Party,” Enten said. “Kamala Harris is just the latest to face so many young black men turning to the Republican Party.”
