A troubling situation is unfolding in California, where aggressive squirrels have been causing quite a stir in local neighborhoods. Reports indicate that these feisty creatures are not just scaring residents; they’re also attacking and injuring them. At least two individuals have found themselves in the emergency room due to encounters with these relentless rodents.
Among the victims is Isabel Kampoy, who experienced a frightening attack. “She almost killed me,” went her shocked description. “The squirrel jumped right at my face from the floor.” With injuries that left her covered in blood, she rushed to seek medical help for a deep bruise and a serious gouge on her forearm.
But Kampoy isn’t the only one affected; another neighbor, Joan Hebrack, also faced the squirrel’s fury during her morning walk. Reporting the incident, she said, “It attached itself to my legs, and its tail was all over the place.” The unexpected encounter left her quite shaken, as she exclaimed, “I didn’t even see it coming.”
Residents suspect that this particular golden-furred attacker is behind at least a trio of incidents and have taken to posting flyers to warn others. One such warning reads, “Attack squirrels beware!!!!!” emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
Experts weigh in, suggesting that the squirrels could be acting out due to frustration from searching for food. Vanessa Potter from Wildcare in San Rafael mentioned that if these animals feel their territory is threatened or they are not finding enough to eat, their behavior can become more aggressive.
Fortunately, in recent days, the aggressive squirrels seem to have disappeared, and the community is hopeful for a return to normalcy. After all, as one resident reflected, “It’s a very frightening situation.”
