AI horror flick star Katherine Waterston admits new tech is ‘terrifying’

Katherine Waterston is not a big fan of artificial intelligence.

“As with any technology, there is incredible potential for innovation and real threats, and it clearly requires a high degree of regulation,” she told Fox News Digital.

Earlier this year, Waterston starred in the horror film Afraid, about an AI home assistant who goes berserk and wreaks havoc on a family's life.

I started with this script and was struck by its take on the world of espionage,” Waterston said. “We see a lot of glamorous views, but we also see cynical views. And we felt we struck a fair balance here with some skepticism. So… , the cynical view that nothing is good. And then there's the skepticism that there is no complete truth. And that unlocks so much story and so much character development. .”

“Getting to the heart of something is a challenge, it's a little mysterious, everyone's a little hard to pin down, everyone's contradictory, people always say the truth with one mouth and the other. With one mouth you tell a lie.'' So I felt like there was a lot of play here and a lot of potential stories. ”

As she prepared for the role, Waterston also became fascinated with the history of women in the CIA.

“I completely fell in love with women in the CIA. There's a great book out there, I think it just came out this year, called 'The Sisterhood,' and it takes me through the history of women in the CIA.” In the end, it came down to this: what kind of person do you have to be to get there, and what kind of person do you have to be to move up the ranks? It was very helpful,” she said.
