Air Force Coach Suspended Amid Investigation
Joe Scott, the head coach of the Air Force men’s basketball team, has been suspended indefinitely while an investigation focuses on his treatment of player cadets, as announced by the school on Saturday.
In Scott’s absence, assistant coach Joe Jordan will step in as the interim coach. The school did not provide further details regarding the situation at this time.
At 60 years old, Scott is on his second tenure with the Air Force. He first served as the head coach from 2000 to 2004 and returned to the position in 2020.
During his career, Scott has recorded 97 wins and 183 losses over a span of 10 seasons. Unfortunately, the Falcons are having a tough season, currently sitting at 3 wins and 14 losses.
Interestingly, Scott has managed just one winning season throughout his decade-long coaching career, which was in 2003-04 when his team finished with a record of 22-7 and won the Mountain West Conference title. They also qualified for the NCAA Tournament that year.
After his initial stint at Air Force, Scott moved on to Princeton, where he spent three years compiling a record of 38 wins and 45 losses in the Ivy League.
Following Princeton, he went on to coach at the University of Denver from 2007 to 2016, amassing a 146-132 record in nine seasons but only making one NIT appearance. He was ultimately released from the position with two years remaining on his contract.
Scott has also served two seasons as an assistant at Holy Cross and two more under Tom Crean at Georgia before heading back to Air Force. In total, his head coaching record stands at 281 wins and 360 losses.
Jordan’s first game as interim head coach is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. ET against the Nevada Wolfpack.
