Air Force veteran jumps into key House race to unseat 22-term vulnerable Dem

First on FOX: A long-standing dem. Rep. Mercy Captor faces a new Republican challenger in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District.

Nadeem, a native of northwest Ohio, told Fox News Digital that she told the story of her tragic life that was lured by her father to an invitation to Iraq, where she lived under Saddam Hussein’s control before the US government brought her back.

Nadeem joined the Air Force in response to the events of 9/11 and did not plan to leave the nonpartisan military world for politics until he spent time on Capitol Hill in recent years.

“I could see everything that was happening firsthand. I have to tell you, my hometown in which I grew up was not good,” Nadeem explained. “I was watching the policies people vote for, especially the current person, Mercy Captor, who was here for nearly 43 years. I didn’t think I was actually voting the way I grew up.”

Kapter, who won a small re-election in 2024 with less than one percentage point, is considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the House as he is one of the most viewed people when Republicans try to hold a thin majority in the Chamber of Commerce.

Cook’s political report ranks the race as “throwing the Democrats” with Trump carrying more than 10 points.

Kapter faced criticism in last year’s campaign to introduce only five bills that became law in 41 years.

Nadeem told Fox News Digital that even the person she is talking to has agreed that Kaptor agrees that there are too many 22 terms of Congress.

“It’s time to hand over the torch,” Nadeem said. “One thing they told me was that they were really scared to hand over the torch the last two times. They didn’t feel like there was a candidate who could really step into her shoes, and I really want to step into it.”

Nadeem spoke to Fox News Digital about issues that will be focused on during the campaign.

“This is close to my heart and is important,” Nadeem said, adding that she is not screaming northwest and that she believes these blue-collar jobs are her ‘first priority’.

Nadeem said bringing financial responsibility to Washington, D.C. would be another priority.

“I saw it when Mercy Kapter took office in 1983. I think there was debt. The US debt seems to be 1.6 trillion, and now there is 36 trillion,” Nadeem said. “So we just look like democratic leadership, and we’re not getting better, so we need to get our finances neatly because we know that people in Northwest Ohio really depend on Social Security and Medicare. And if we can’t balance those checkbooks, we can pay for those things.
