Joe Gebbia Discusses Political Shift and New Role

In a recent interview, Joe Gebbia, the co-founder of Airbnb, shared his reasons for leaving the Democratic Party and supporting President Donald Trump. He emphasized concerns regarding law enforcement and immigration, stating, “This is a real problem… we shouldn’t ignore it.” As he explored these topics further, he concluded he could align with a party less tolerant of criminal activity.

Previously, Gebbia had worked for the Ministry of Government Efficiency but was appointed by Trump last month. The aim of his new role involves redesigning government websites to make them more user-friendly and attractive.

On the subject of immigration, Gebbia revealed that he felt dissatisfied with the Democratic approach. He mentioned engaging with Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, seeking advice on the border issue. He described an exchange where he requested insights from Kushner, who provided him with resources to connect with experts in the field.

In January, Gebbia also indicated his support for Trump in the upcoming 2024 election, commenting that he believed the Democrats had lost their direction.

As one of the wealthiest individuals, with a net worth exceeding $8 billion, Gebbia spoke about his aspirations as the first chief design officer of the United States. “Our goal is to elevate government websites to match the excellence that we believe the U.S. deserves,” he stated.

While discussing his previous work with the Doge initiative, he criticized the existing retirement processing system for federal employees, calling it inefficient and outdated. He aims to streamline this process significantly, suggesting that it should only take a few days, contrasting sharply with the current months-long regimen.
