Support for Transgender Identity

Irene De Niro has expressed that her father, actor Robert De Niro, has provided her with unwavering support since she came out as transgender.

Aylin, born Aaron De Niro in 1995, announced her transition in April. Throughout this journey, Robert has remained by her side, as reported.

“His support hasn’t wavered, and I truly appreciate it,” Irene shared in an interview. She also mentioned a recent conversation with him where he indicated a desire to make some changes to boost his own confidence. “Hearing him say that was really affirming. He told me, ‘You don’t have to change anything about yourself,'” she reflected.

Robert has even offered to accompany Aylin as she navigates the process of obtaining gender-affirming hormones.

He has publicly expressed his acceptance of her identity, emphasizing, “As a parent, all you can really do is love your child for who they are and support the path they choose.” Aylin added that she had to explain her perspective, particularly what it feels like for a trans woman who begins transitioning later in life. “I didn’t grow up as a cis woman. That’s why I’m considering some procedures to feel more at home in my body,” she clarified.

“He gets that perspective, and while he suggests I proceed with caution, he supports my decisions. Honestly, that’s all any trans kid could wish for in a parent,” Aylin noted.

Irene further commented on her father’s stance, stating, “We embrace individuals from every background.”

On another note, Robert De Niro is known for his fierce political views, often harshly criticizing figures like former President Donald Trump and expressing his disapproval of those who don’t share his views. He has previously referred to Trump and his supporters in very strong terms.
