A’ja Wilson Responds to Rachel Nichols’ Interview Question

A’ja Wilson, the standout player for the Las Vegas Aces, recently expressed her discomfort regarding a question posed by former ESPN analyst Rachel Nichols. The question revolved around Wilson’s relationship with Miami Heat forward Bam Adebayo during an interview featuring Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

In a clip from “Open Run,” which aired during the Emirates NBA Cup semifinals in Las Vegas, Nichols referenced an online meme that humorously suggested Thunder general manager Sam Presti might attend Wilson and Adebayo’s future ultrasound appointments, hinting at his eagerness to gather talent in Oklahoma City.

Nichols pointed out that Wilson had shared her excitement about starting a family with Adebayo in a previous conversation with Time magazine.

“Aja talked about being named Time Magazine’s Athlete of the Year, and because she often discusses her relationship with Bam, someone joked that if Sam Presti had a baby, he’d be right there for the ultrasound. Is he that dedicated?” Nichols quipped.

Gilgeous-Alexander responded with laughter, acknowledging Presti’s commitment to his job. “Sam takes his work seriously; he will do whatever it takes to achieve success,” he remarked.

Nichols joked further, “So, Bam Adebayo, if you ever decide to have a baby, just know Sam Presti will be knocking on your door.”

A’ja Wilson found the moment somewhat offbeat, saying, “Don’t you think this is a little strange?” expressing her thoughts in a thread.

Adebayo also weighed in, emphasizing the importance of privacy in their relationship. The couple has been together for nearly four years, having started dating during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Reflecting on their bond, Wilson told Time magazine, “Starting a family with him feels like a dream. He is my life partner. Honestly, I often think about how different my life was before he came along.”

Meanwhile, Nichols has yet to respond to Wilson’s remarks as of Monday. She was let go by ESPN after controversial comments were revealed in leaked audio in July 2021. Malia Taylor, the colleague referenced, left ESPN during the same period and later joined NBC Sports, while Nichols transitioned to Fox Sports 1.
