Alabama man stabbed in New Year’s Eve killing

A 68-year-old man was stabbed to death on New Year's Eve in Alabama, and his family mourned the loss of a devoted family man and veteran.

On Tuesday, police announced that Ernest Christion Jr., 68, was stabbed to death in his home in Birmingham. Until release From Birmingham Police Station.

Officers arrived at the Birmingham home around 7 p.m. after receiving a 911 call. Police said Christion was “unresponsive and was suffering from what officers believed to be stab wounds.”

The veteran was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

After his death, authorities opened a murder investigation and offered a cash reward of up to $5,000 in tips.

On Saturday, detectives secured arrest warrants for two suspects in Christion's death following a tip from the community.

Police identified Gingy Gamble, 60, and her son, La Verne Gamble, 40, as the suspects.

Authorities said Gingy Gamble was dating Christon at the time of the stabbing. Police said they believe Gingy Gamble stabbed Christion over a dispute over money.

Authorities said the mother and son were arrested and are being held at the Jefferson County Jail. Gingy Gamble was arraigned without bail, and La Verne Gamble was arrested on suspicion of murder and held on $15,000 bail.

Christie, known as “Ricky,” is remembered as a “beacon of joy and love” in a statement to AL.com.

“Ricky was more than just a veteran, he was a beacon of joy and love,” his family said in a statement.

“His sense of humor was contagious and he will always be remembered for his ability to make people smile even during difficult times,” the family added. “Whether it was a funny joke, a light-hearted comment or his unwavering positivity, Ricky had a special talent for making those around him feel good.”

According to the family, Christie was a devoted family man.

“His family was the center of his world and he cherished every moment he spent with them,” they said. “His love for his children was unconditional and he took great pride in being a devoted father.”
