Alabama’s Hopes Dashed by Critical Penalty Against Georgia
There was a moment where it seemed like the Alabama Crimson Tide might just pull off an unbelievable upset against Georgia. Unfortunately, a careless foul snuffed out that flicker of hope.
In the final minutes of the game, with the score tight, Georgia faced a third-and-2 at their own end. That’s when Alabama defensive back Dijon Lee made a crucial error. He struck an opposing player in the face – twice – after grabbing his jersey. The referees flagged him, which handed Georgia an automatic first down. With no timeouts left for Alabama, Georgia managed to run the clock down and secure the win.
It’s safe to say head coach Kalen DeBoer was not pleased with Lee’s actions. When Lee returned to the sidelines, DeBoer expressed his frustration bluntly, seemingly telling him he “just cost us the d— game.” Initially, it looked like Lee was trying to ignore the angry coach, but in the end, he didn’t really have a choice but to listen.
Before all this, the coach was already on edge. Just minutes earlier, Alabama was desperately trying to score. They could have drawn a penalty for defensive pass interference in the end zone, but it went uncalled. The next play ended badly, too, as quarterback Keelon Russell was sacked, putting them out of field goal range. Alabama then opted to punt, and they never got another chance to regain possession.
With this loss, Alabama faced its first setback of the season, while Georgia improved to an impressive 6-0 record.
