Alan Dershowitz Slams Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s Case Against Trump, Says It’s ‘Weakest’ He’s Seen In 60 Years

Former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz on Friday blasted Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against former President Donald Trump on Fox News, calling it the best he’s seen in 60 years. It argued that it was the weakest lawsuit.

Dershowitz appeared on “Hannity” to discuss Trump’s upcoming trial in New York. Mr. Bragg has accused President Trump of falsifying his business records to pay hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels. Fox News host Sean Hannity urged the former law professor to analyze the case from a “legal perspective” as Mr. Bragg sought to increase the charges against Mr. Trump. “I’ve been doing this for 60 years, Sean. Teaching criminal cases, defending criminal cases, writing about criminal cases – this is by far the best I’ve seen in 60 years. , the weakest criminal case. There’s nothing here. No misdemeanors, no felonies, no federal crimes. The federal authorities refuse to prosecute, even Mr. Bragg, and the progressive, woke young prosecutors demand an indictment. He refused to press charges until then,” Dershowitz said.

“Forget the fact that they’re doing this to stop someone from running for president and being successful. Forget that. This combination of trying to elevate it to a felony by claiming that the only reason he paid for it was to prevent voters from finding out about it. Obviously, he wants to embarrass his family and wife. They did it because they didn’t have one. And the idea that they could indict someone — they could have gone after Alexander Hamilton on that theory.”

The former law professor went on to say that no prosecution of someone who did not “disclose hush money payments” on a business form has ever come before a court “in the history” of the United States, Dershowitz said. It warned of the dangers the United States faced if it did not disclose hush money payments.” “Objective standards of justice” apply equally to everyone.

“I have a challenge for you: Name a case in American history where someone was prosecuted for not disclosing hush money payments on some type of business form. That has never happened. And it is such an abuse of the legal system to file an unprecedented trumped-up lawsuit against someone running against your president, your Democrat. We should change our motto from “cheating” to “double standards and hypocrisy,” Dershowitz said. he continued.

“That’s what we’re seeing here. Obviously, the same thing is happening with the legal fees paid by the DNC. Some of the legal fees paid to Trump’s lawyers came from campaign funds. Democrats were furious when they heard it was coming, but as we all know, when it comes to American politics today, what’s good for the goose is bad for the goose. And we’re all losers at that. Without objective standards of justice that apply equally to everyone, all Americans are at risk.”

In April 2023, Mr. Trump was indicted by Mr. Bragg on 34 charges. Charges brought against former presidents for falsifying business records are usually considered misdemeanors, but Mr. Bragg accused Mr. Trump of felonies. Manhattan prosecutors alleged that Trump used hush money payments to Daniels to cover up other crimes. However, Mr. Bragg has not yet filed charges against him for any other crimes. according to to the New York Times.

The trial is scheduled to begin on April 15, 2024.
