Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez accuses Israel of ‘genocide’ against Palestinians

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has accused Israel of committing “genocide” against Palestinians, the first time she has directed her accusations at the Jewish state.

“If you want to see what an ongoing genocide looks like, open your eyes,” AOC said Friday night on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. “This looks like forced starvation of 1.1 million innocent people. Thousands of children graze on grass while food trucks slow and stop just a few miles away. It looks like you are wasting your body while eating.”

The United States must “fulfill its obligation to the American people to halt the transfer of U.S. weapons to the Israeli government in order to deter and deter further atrocities. Respecting alliances does not encourage genocide. “I don’t mean that,” Ocasio-Cortez argued.

Ocasio-Cortez, a democratic socialist and far-left member of the House of Representatives, is one of the most vocal critics of Israel and is in fierce conflict with her party’s majority leader, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D). . – Brooklyn).

In her remarks, AOC did not mention the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel that killed 1,200 people or the dozens of Israeli and American hostages still held by the terrorist organization.

This speech represents an escalation in the language AOC has used to describe the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

In January, she refused to accuse the country of genocide, but said, “The fact that this word is being used, that this word is even included in our discussions, “I think it shows the collective inhumanity that people are facing.”

Her House speech suggested that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez had conceded to the demands of those calling for more vocal condemnation of the Jewish state.

Earlier this month, she and her fiancé Riley Roberts were heckled by pro-Palestinian protesters outside a Brooklyn movie theater.

“It’s wrong not to actively oppose genocide when it’s happening,” a protester shrieked at lawmakers.

“You’re lying,” Ocasio-Cortez fired as she and Roberts descended an escalator.
