Alicia Silverstone Rescues Pregnant Dog from Euthanasia
Actress Alicia Silverstone is receiving admiration for rescuing a pregnant dog from an animal shelter in Southern California, where the dog was facing euthanasia.
The star of “Clueless” saved a 3-year-old terrier mix from a motel in San Bernardino and is currently fostering the dog, who was originally named Kenya and is now called Noel.
Noel had been taken to animal control and was on the list for euthanasia.
Silverstone, 49, expressed her shock at the situation, saying, “I saw a dog named Noel in a shelter, and so many dogs are killed every day in shelters because of overcrowding and all that.” She noted, “And her face was really beautiful and lovely.”
Using her connections at the Helen Woodward Animal Center, staff from San Diego traveled 160 miles to rescue Noel.
Interestingly, Noel gave birth to 14 puppies, with 12 surviving. Silverstone remarked, “So she had a baby. It just so happened that on the same day she was about to be killed, she just happened to have a baby. It’s kind of crazy,” adding that she and her son enjoyed playful moments with the puppies.
After a month, Silverstone and her son chose to adopt four of the pups. “If you want someone to spay or neuter, stop going to the breeder, stop going to the pet store, just rescue. If you rescue, you’ll get the cutest little faces,” she advised.
Fans and animal advocates are celebrating the heartwarming images of Silverstone and her son bonding with the puppies.
A spokesperson for the Helen Woodward Animal Center praised Silverstone, stating, “Alicia Silverstone is one of those rare individuals who truly wants to help and truly wants to make a difference.”
