Alito Might Have Committed an ‘Impeachable Offense’

Former federal prosecutor Harry Litman said on CNN’s “The Newsroom” on Saturday that Justice Samuel Alito may have committed “impeachable offenses.”

Host Jessica Dean said, “You mentioned Justice Samuel Alito, and I want to ask you about him, as I always do, because your former neighbor has doubts about the judge’s explanation for an upside-down American flag that was hanging in his Virginia home in 2021. You also mentioned the letter he wrote to lawmakers, which he said was in response to a very nasty neighborhood dispute, but the neighbor said this week that at best he’s wrong, and at worst he’s just flat-out lying.”

Litman said, “Justice Alito himself has distanced himself from this, but that’s a tacit acknowledgement that he himself is flying the flag for us on this. That’s a problem. Now, about this discrepancy, the neighbor says there is physical evidence, a photo that was published in the New York Times in January and a police report of an altercation in February that Justice Alito says was what sparked it. I’m not saying we should believe what the neighbor says over what a U.S. judge says, but there is a discrepancy and I really think it’s essential that we get to the truth. I’m not saying that if, and I’m not saying that he did, Justice Alito sent a letter to Congress and didn’t tell the truth in it, that would be extremely serious. I think that’s an impeachable offense.”
