An email sent to Ministry of Education workers said their offices will be closed on Wednesday over security concerns. According to To CBS News.
The email was sent from James Hairfield, the Department of Security, Facilities and Logistics, instructing workers to leave the Washington, D.C. department office by 6pm Tuesday.
“We can say that we left American education more freely, stronger and with more hope for the future.”
“For some reason, employees will not be permitted at the ED facility on Wednesday, March 12th,” the email read, but added that the office will reopen on Thursday.
The emails raised fear from the left after President Donald Trump said that Linda McMahon was disbanding the department and leaving it to the Secretary of Education.
“The reality of our education system is harsh, and the American people have chosen President Trump to make a big difference in Washington,” McMahon wrote in an email. “Our job is to respect the will of the American people and the president they have chosen. They have entrusted us with achieving the elimination of bureaucratic bloats here at the Department of Education – promptly and responsibly.”
The decision may have been made to keep the government's Ministry of Efficiency employees out of the way, who have encountered opposition at other agencies.
Republicans have long criticised the lack of improvement in student learning outcomes, and have insisted on sending federal taxpayer money to the state to fund school options. Democrats opposed the efforts and accused Republicans of wanting to exacerbate education for the poorest students.
Teachers' unions were also a great source of campaign contributions for Democrats.
“Once the final mission is complete, we hope to be able to say that American education is stronger, stronger and more hopeful for the future,” McMahon said.
